What are pipeline floats?

Pipeline floats, also called dredge floats or buoyancy modules, are clamp-on polyethylene bodies fitted around discharge pipes to keep a dredging or water-transfer pipeline afloat, aligned and visible on the water surface.

How do I calculate how many floats I need for my pipeline?

Total float buoyancy must exceed the total weight of the pipe, the conveyed medium (water or slurry) and accessories. As a rule of thumb, floats should provide 20–30% more buoyancy than this total so the pipeline floats with roughly one quarter of its diameter above water.

Are polyethylene floats suitable for seawater use?

Yes. Polyethylene is highly resistant to saltwater corrosion, UV radiation and chemical attack, and unlike steel floats it never rusts, which is why PE is preferred in marine environments.

How long is the warranty period?

The warranty starts when the buyer hands over the goods to the investor and ends 18 months after that handover date or 12 months after the installation date, whichever comes first.

What information is needed for an accurate pipe float specification?

Provide pipe outer diameter, pipe material and wall thickness, conveyed medium and its density, pipeline length, site conditions (river, reservoir, port or offshore), required freeboard, colour or marking requirements, quantity and destination port.

Can floats and buoys be customised?

Yes. Float bodies are matched to the specified pipe outer diameter, and colour, marking and fittings can be adapted to project requirements. Custom rotomolded parts can also be produced to drawings.

Are these floats suitable for seawater use?

Yes, absolutely. Polyethylene (PE) is highly resistant to saltwater corrosion, UV radiation, and chemical erosion. They are actually preferred over steel floats in marine environments because they never rust.

Precisely what material is used for the float shell?

All of our floats are made with PE (polyethylene) plastic shells. The PE shell is a super tough material engineered to take an impact and resist UV exposure and saltwater weathering.

What internal filling is used, and will the float sink if punctured?

Each float features a closed-cell urethane foam filling for safety and structural rigidity. The non-water absorbing urethane foam stops the unit from sinking even if the outer shell is punctured.

What happens if one breaks or gets pierced?

Punctures are exceptionally rare due to our heavy-duty construction. If pierced, you won't sink due to the non-water absorbing urethane foam. The float can be easily replaced or repaired without risking your system.

How can a damaged float be repaired?

Remove it from the pipe (or pull the craft out of the water), allow it to dry for a couple of days, and use a standard HDPE plastic welding kit equipped with a soldering iron tool and matching plastic welding rods.
